10:29 am - Flattery and Bullshit Have just had an eventful few days in Blackpool where I not only won several bottles of wine but got chatted up.
I was on my own for a few hours and the MC/DJ hit on me. Loads of compliments -
MC 'you're a very good looking woman for your age' ME 'when did you say you were getting your eyes tested?'
MC 'you've got very good bone structure' ME 'yeah but it's covered in wrinkles'
etc, etc
All very flattering until I saw him exchanging phone numbers with a woman I'd befriended.
The next day she went home and he spent most of the day chatting and flirting with me. Told him I thought he was a serial bullshitter - he came out with a load of bollox which was great fun if taken with a shovelful of salt. (Mind you, I can see that anyone lonely would be totally charmed by him. Even though I knew what he was up to it was hard to resist him.) He even asked for my room number so he could 'give me a cuddle'. Hah!
In the meantime he was texting and phoning this other woman who, in turn, was texting me. At the moment we are all in touch by phone/email and hoping to get together sometime. Probably won't hear from either of them after the weekend but it was great fun while it lasted and has given my ego an enormous boost.
PS. I did get a brief snog out of it. Very brief. I didn't want him sticking his tongue in my mouth and discovering my false teeth. Current Location: Back home Current Mood: ecstatic

03:13 pm - Senile dementia? A recent conversation with my companion went like this:
C. "What's that pudding I don't like called?"
Me. "What's it like?"
C. You know, the one with rice in it."
Me. "Rice pudding?"
C. "That's it." Current Mood: amused Current Music: My downloaded favourites

02:58 pm - Public service advert If you are younger than 50 stop reading now although this might be one for big_daz to research. I can't find anything either by googling or on youtube.
Does anyone remember (what I assume was) an animated public service advert from the 1960s which showed a baby being pushed in his pram by his mother? It ends with the baby saying " This is where I get out and walk until mums and motorists realise... shopping with a pram takes time."
I'd love to see it again. Current Mood: pensive Current Music: Linkin Park

03:31 pm - 3 for 2 Now, I do like a bargain and as Sainsbury's had scrummy looking cakes on a 3 for 2 offer (I hope you are reading this karliflower. A trip to Sainsbury's may be on the cards methinks.)I decided to forego proper food today and pig out. Contrary to popular belief I don't eat a lot - it took me over three months to eat my Christmas chocolate and, even then, someone else finished the last half box for me. Anyway, the offer was to have the cheapest item free. Oh, come on. Who's going to pick a cheap item when you can have three expensive ones so I bought 2 fresh cream meringues with strawberries and a chelsea bun of roughly the same proportions as a normal pack of 4. So far have eaten the chelsea bun and one of the meringues and feel bloiked. Will scoff the other meringue asap in case the aforementioned karliflower decides to come and help me with it. I'm sure I'll regret it tomorrow when I get on the scales but Carpe Diem. Current Mood: full

11:05 am - The joys of old age. I've got rheumatoid arthritis which means that first thing in the morning and late evening everything seizes up. I don't think my armchair is doing me any favours so I'm thinking of getting a new one. Now, here's the problem. Do I get an 'old person's' chair like they have in hospitals and old folks homes - you know, usually covered in vinyl in case of accidents - or do I go for a super duper rise and recline type? The latter are mega expensive so I'd have to be sure to get it right first time. OR, is there something in between? The main thing is that the seat height from the floor is higher than a normal chair so if anyone has any advice I'd be grateful.
God this is a boring post. Current Mood: drained

04:44 pm - Proof-reading and continuity rant Whatever happened to proof-readers and continuity people? Following the posting by karliflower about solar eclipses I thought I'd mention the new series of Law and Order UK. On two of the programs, the date of a court appearance has flashed up as Monday April 6th. This doesn't make sense as April 6 will be on a Monday THIS year ( I know because it's my birthday) so the last time it would have been on a Monday was 6 years ago - allowing for leap year. The program certainly isn't 6 years out of date and I don't think it is supposed to be futuristic so shouldn't someone have checked dates? Last Monday a couple were shown walking alongside the Thames. The pavement was thick with fallen, autumn leaves but the next date which flashed up showed it was March. I really don't think the leaves would have been left unswept for all that time.
My other gripe is books. I read a lot of trash but even 'better' ones are full of spelling errors and silly mistakes. I've started counting the number of mistakes instead of enjoying the book. Even newspapers don't seem to bother checking anything nowadays. My pet hate is the use of the word phase instead of faze. I think it just goes to show how educational standards have fallen when writers and columnists don't use English correctly.
Rant over. I feel better now. Current Mood: annoyed

04:22 pm - It doesn't snow in Lancashire. So what's all this snow malarky then? We've just spent a week in (mostly) brilliant sunshine at Blackpool. Apart from a few flurries there was no snow at all and driving back today we were almost at Stoke before we saw any. 11:54 am - Holiday At this point I should be getting very excited about going to Whitby Goff Weekend albeit only visiting fleetingly. But I'm not. What with a dodgy eye which is going to make driving difficult, if not dangerous, and a constant feeling of nausea, I can't quite work up any enthusiasm. Looking forward to seeing my Grandson all 'goffed up' though and looking after him while his Mum and Dad are out enjoying themselves. Also, hoping it doesn't rain on the Saturday as I'm planning to 'promenade' with the family. So if you see an old woman in a wheelchair, trying to look Victorian, give me a smile and cheer me up.

12:48 pm - Constructive dismissal Does anybody know anything about Constructive Dismissal? My partner (Graham)is off sick, partly through pressure at work, and the firm seem determined to make him give notice. He has been put straight on to Statutory Sick Pay (according to his Contract they could have paid him for up to two months) and they've also sent him a letter saying he faces a disciplinary meeting when he returns. The reasons given for the disciplinary are so trivial it is obvious they are trying to make him resign.
I know I can find the information on the Net but it is very confusing when you keep having to follow links. Any help would be much appreciated. Current Mood: pensive

03:40 pm - RB and the mad woman. I feel much better now. Spent the morning writing notes for when we see the solicitor on Tuesday. Thought it would be a good idea to have some notes rather than waffle on and get everyone confused. Must admit the mad woman hasn't phoned since last Monday when Gra told her to f*** off so we are both feeeling more relaxed. However, RB is here all day tomorrow so anything could happen and probably will. Current Mood: calm

05:23 pm - RB (again) We're seeing a solicitor next Tuesday. Don't know whether it will do any good but at least we can tell the mad woman not to harrass us and lay out OUR proposals for when we will have the children. If she doesn't agree then she'll have to get her own solicitor. In the meantime the RB has made arrangements with his friends to go to a disco on Friday. Despite Gra having refused to take him, he's now saying Gra is nasty for not letting him go. In the meantime the mad woman has told Dominique she can go to her aunt's in London in the school holidays but that Gra will have to give her the train fare and spending money. OK, we'll just reduce the amount of maintenance Gra pays to cover it. That should warrant another tirade of abuse. Current Mood: irritated

06:28 pm - eBay uni and other things eBay uni day was interesting on the whole although I don't think kalifleur or englisharcher would necessarily agree especially since the latter fell asleep during the last bit. I also pinched his 'lucky draw' prize.
Sunday was ok until the evening when the mad woman, RB's mother, rang up ranting and raving at Gra again. Didn't manage to find out what the problem was but it ended with us being told to either pick the RB up on Sunday night or after school yesterday. We decided to call her bluff this time and collected him from school. When she rang his mobile to find out where he was we got another torrent of abuse. This time we've had enough and will be seeing a solicitor. Apart from anything else, we think that what she does to the RB (threatening to have him out into care etc) amounts to emotional/mental abuse. Does anyone have any advice for us?

02:06 pm - Busy weekend Why is it that whenever you have a few days off you feel obliged to 'do' something? I'm glad I haven't got a garden because it was definitely gardening weather over Easter. As it was we tidied out the garage which is full of our bric-a-brac stuff. I don't think I can cope with all the excitement. Current Music: Various - chill out stuff.
